About Us
What is Medhaps?
–noun
1. Bad luck involving medical care.
2. An unfortunate medical accident.
Medhaps is a website created for the purpose of education — in order to stir discussion and thought. At the very least, we hope you find the presented stories entertaining and share them with your friends!
[Medhaps is a portmanteau of the words medical and mishaps.]
Our Goals
To discuss the various aspects of medical mishaps (or even some not-so-accidentals) and bring to light on how mistakes happen and maybe how we can keep ourselves aware of such circumstances.
Our Process
| 1. Selection of Cases | A set of three cases are selected from our database of files. A brief summary is then presented to our Analyst Panel who votes on which case to analyze. The focus is on choosing a wide variety of styles and stories so that we can cover a broad range of issues. |
| 2. Actual Files | Actual medical board files are then obtained from the state medical board. Any other case files and public information are also compiled so we have as complete of a story as we can. A synopsis is then drafted from all the research done. |
| 3. Analysis & Responses | One member of the panel is assigned the case to write an analysis. After the first analysis is done, the other two members are given the synopsis with its corresponding analysis to which to give their responses. Once all that is complete, everything is published on our website for our readers. |
| 4. Discussion | After reading, you then discuss and comment on the story, analysis, and responses of our panelists. Feel free to leave your responses directly in a comment on our website, or visit us on Twitter and Facebook and leave a note there. |
While we want to spur discussion, please keep in mind that comments and analyses here are not meant to be taken as medical or legal advice, nor do we want to fight over the details regarding the current state of medical care.
